Len Saltysiak
A past Club President, a single digit handicapper, an ophthalmologist, and a member of the club for 25 plus years. Len was instrumental in ensuring the club remained strong during the course’s management transition from the Baltimore County Recreation and Parks to the Baltimore County Revenue Authority. The putting contest being named after him has to do with him being known as a “putting guru.” He also patented a putting game that was played during post-season banquets. Some old-time members may remember the game he called a “Salty,” where a putt that hit an upside-down target tee but only tiled it was awarded 3 points! Len passed away at 77 years of age on August 14, 2000.
Dick Hall
He played in Major League Baseball as a right-handed pitcher from 1952 – 1971, most notably as a member of the Baltimore Orioles. He pitched over 1300 innings and only threw one wild pitch and was the winning pitcher in the first MLB playoff game. He was inducted into the Orioles Hall of Fame in 1989. He was also an accountant and kept the FHMGC in good standing as the Club Treasurer from 1979 to 2013. In his prime, he routinely hit his driver inside the 100-yard marker on Hole #3. Dick passed away at 92 years of age on June 18, 2023. The annual “Turkey Shoot”, named in his memory, refers to his big-league nickname “Turkey” due to his prominent Adam’s apple. Dick is remembered as one of the most affable members the club ever had.
